Perry bought the land in 1996 for $290,000 on a tip from developer friend Gary Bradley. Bradley’s firm had sold the property two weeks before, but new owner & Bradley business partner John Lloyd promptly sold the property to Perry. In late 1998, Perry placed the land in his blind trust, signaling willingness to sell. Trustees did sell the property six months later for $525,000, after the Legislature passed a law that made the land more attractive for development by allowing it to be permitted under less stringent water restrictions. |
